Alan Mongey was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1972. He received his degree in Fine Arts from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dublin in 2003.
In Mongey’s practice the message takes precedent over the medium, implying in a lucid and inventing manner regardless of medium and devoid of highbrow discourse.
His artworks have been exhibited and collected worldwide.
Mongey’s works have taken on various forms including drawing, graffiti, mixed media, painting, sculptural installations, and video. He believes subject matters dictates the medium.
He offers the viewer the reassurance of the familiar through references to popular culture, childhood, memory and art history. Mongey uses humour and pathos in an attempt to diffuse potential threats, both real and imagined.
